Content

A historical timeline and a list of key events. An unseen authentic historical source to be used as a reading comprehension exercise. Students prepare a 20-minute presentation on any topic mentioned in the course, followed by a Q/A session.

Conditions of Participation

Completion of an oral presentation. Participation in Q/A sessions. The “unseen“ is not part of the examination process.

Teaching Methods

Mini-presentaion/ outline of course by lecturer. Students will be encouraged to speak as much as possible, formally with regard to presentations, and informally in Q/A sessions. Linguistic inaccuracies will be corrected as necessary by the lecturer.

Learning outcomes / Competences

Students will have a better understanding of some of the key historical and contemporary issues in Britain. They will also be more familiar with some academic conventions in the UK, such as the unseen reading comprehension exercise.
